Privacy Policy
Static Signal is a static content site. It collects very little, sets no cookies, and runs no advertising. Here is the full accounting.

What we collect
Aggregate analytics. We use Umami (cookieless) to count pageviews and see which posts are getting read. Umami briefly processes your IP address and user-agent string to derive a country and a daily rotating identifier used for unique-visitor counts, then discards them. No persistent identifier ever leaves your browser, no cookies are set, and the data is not linked to any individual.
Server logs. The site is hosted on Render, whose edge infrastructure records standard HTTP request metadata — IP address, request path, timestamp, user-agent — for operations, debugging, and abuse prevention. These logs are retained for roughly 30 days and then discarded.
That is the entire list. We do not run advertising, behavioral tracking, fingerprinting, session replay, or any third-party scripts beyond Umami. The site sets no cookies.
What we don't collect
- No email addresses. There is no newsletter signup, no comment form, no account system.
- No personal information through forms. The site has no forms.
- No cross-site identifiers, advertising IDs, or browser fingerprints.
- No location data beyond the country-level signal derived briefly by Umami.
RSS subscribers
If you subscribe via RSS, your reader fetches the feed file directly from Render's CDN. We don't operate a subscriber list — we have no way to know who subscribes, and no way to contact RSS subscribers as a group.
Who we share data with
The two data processors named above (Umami and Render) are the only third parties involved in serving this site. We do not sell, rent, share, or otherwise transfer data to anyone else, for any purpose, ever.
Your rights
Under GDPR (EU) and CCPA (California) you have the right to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you. Because we hold almost no personal data — no account, no email, no profile — most of these requests resolve to "there is nothing to access or delete." If you'd like server-log entries containing your IP address removed within their retention window, email us and we'll process it.

Children
Static Signal is a technical publication for working developers. We do not knowingly direct content at children under 13 and do not collect any information that would identify a child.
Changes to this policy
If we change our analytics setup, add a feature that collects more data, or change hosting providers, this page will be updated and the "last updated" date at the top will change. Material changes will also be noted in the next post.
